Global Wind Day

On Tuesday, June 15, Erie Shores Wind Farm and the Interpretive Centre in Port Burwell, Ontario, welcomed a media tour for Global Wind Day. The visitors met with Dennis Haggerty of Erie Shores Wind Farm and Ron Flick of the Otter Valley Chamber of Commerce at the Erie Shores substation before beginning their tour around the wind farm.

Upon visiting a wind turbine on one of Port Burwell’s beautiful orchards, the guests were able to go inside a few at a time and see what the interior of a wind turbine was like.

At approximately 12p.m. the tour arrived at the Interpretive Centre. Here, the visitors admired Dennis’ satellite-view model of the wind farm, they explored facts about wind power and turbines, and purchased souvenirs to commemorate their day.

After a morning of learning and exploring, the tour moved to Schooners Galley, a well-known, local restaurant in Port Burwell. Our visitors enjoyed deep-fried pickles (a north-shore specialty), onion rings, and of course, Lake Erie Perch, while Mayor Lynn Acre spoke to the group, showing her passion for Bayham and its Erie Shores Wind Farm landmark. After lunch, the visitors gathered back onto the bus and headed back to the substation where they departed.

The day was extremely successful and our guests enjoyed their visit to Erie Shores Wind Farm. We hope this is the first of many Global Wind Day tours!
